Referring to the importance of the liver, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Resat Memişoğlu said, “The liver is the largest organ in the body. It is the body's factory and has more than 500 functions. It absorbs nutrients and serves to remove harmful substances from the blood. It plays a role in fighting infections; breaks down food to produce energy; makes and regulates many hormones, enzymes, proteins and stores iron, vitamins and other chemicals. It is one of the amazing organs in the body and is vital for sustaining our lives, which is why you need to take good care of your liver. Listing the risk factors to be aware of in the development of liver disease, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reşat Memişoğlu said, “These factors include type 2 diabetes, hypertension, alcohol, obesity, history of viral infections such as hepatitis B or C, history of blood transfusion before 1986, history of unprotected sexual intercourse.
Symptoms of Liver Disease
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Memişoğlu gave information about the symptoms of liver disease. “Among the symptoms of liver disease are fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, muscle loss, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, insomnia, red palms, easy bruising, itching, yellow eyes, yellow skin, white nails, swelling of the legs and feet, dark urine, pale stools, easy bleeding, menstrual irregularities in women, trembling of the hands and confusion in advanced cases,” he said.
